BASEBOARDS
It is designed to hide the joint, but it also helps to protect walls from damage. A baseboard is generally glued or nailed to the wall in order to preserve paint, sheetrock, and wall boards. It covers the uneven edge of flooring next to the wall; protects the wall from kicks, abrasion, and furniture; and can serve as a decorative molding.
